Windham Public Schools Press Release for Immediate Release April 9, 2025
Windham Board of Education APPOINTS NEW SUPERINTENDENT WINDHAM, CT:
At its regular meeting on April 9, 2025, the Windham Board of Education appointed Dr. Iris Gomero its new Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2025.
Dr. Gomero is a committed leader with over 20 years of experience in classroom instruction and school and district-level leadership. She currently serves as Assistant Superintendent of Human Capital and Talent Development at Manchester Public Schools, a role she has held since 2023. Prior to her current role, she served as Chief of Schools and Principal of Illing Middle School, both in Manchester.
Born and raised in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, Dr. Gomero began her professional career teaching TESOL at Goodwin Technical High School, followed by roles as a Spanish and ELL teacher in New Britain and Manchester. She started her administrative career in Manchester, serving as Assistant Principal at Illing Middle School, then went on to serve as Principal of Jumoke Academy TED Elementary School and JAH-SMART in Hartford. She also held the role of Head of Student Life at ISAAC in New London.
Dr. Gomero has been “guided by a passion for learning and an unwavering commitment to improving the experience of students in our schools.” Reflecting on her journey, she shared: “As a first-generation high school and college graduate—and the first in my family to earn a doctorate—I know firsthand the transformative power of education. My parents, who had limited access to formal education, instilled in my siblings and me the conviction that education could open up new worlds of opportunity and change the trajectory of our lives. Like so many families in our schools, they made the courageous decision to leave our homeland in search of the opportunities they were not afforded—including access to a quality education. Their journey inspires my commitment to ensuring that every student has access to the life-changing possibilities a strong education can provide.”
A graduate of the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and TESOL, Dr. Gomero holds a Master’s in English Literature from Trinity College, a Sixth Year from Sacred Heart University, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University.
Windham Board of Education Chair Lynne Ide said, “The Windham Board has taken the search for our new Superintendent of Schools very seriously. We listened carefully to our constituents who participated in focus groups and an online survey. We spread the net wide in our search and were delighted to have attracted a robust pool of applicants. Iris Gomero was the clear choice and an outstanding candidate who brings great talent to the position. We are delighted she will be joining us.”
The Windham search was guided by Mary Broderick of CABE Search Services. She gathered the perspectives of many Windham constituents before writing the Leadership Profile that guided Board in its search.
