National Junior Honor Society

Charles H. Barrows STEM Academy’s National Junior Honor Society Chapter.

Applications are being accepted in October

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These five pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1929..

Application to the Barrows National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) chapter takes place in the beginning of October of each school year.  Eligible students are in grades 7 and 8. See the list  to the right for eligibility requirements. All applications are reviewed by the advisors, and approved by the school principal. While anyone can apply, not all students are automatically admitted.

Selections will be notified by Mid-October and the Induction Ceremony will be held at the end of the month or early November.

NJHS meetings will occur bi-weekly during lunch times. There may be some after-school activities that are planned, and attendance will not be mandatory but strongly suggested.

What does the National Junior Honor Society do at Barrows?

In the past NJHS members have:

  • Sponsored a Thanksgiving meal donation program that has supported families in our community,
  • Hosted a Red Nose Day to raise funds to end childhood hunger in the U.S.,
  • Participated in Walk for Warmth,
  • Organized school dances,
  • Baked cookies for troops abroad and active-duty Coast Guard service men and women.
