Families: Learn about Windham High School's Windham Early College Opportunity

Thursday, January 25th at 6pm, Windham High School will be hosting an information night about Windham’s unique Early College Opportunity program, known as Windham-ECO.  The meeting will be held at Windham Middle School, and families of all middle school students are encouraged to attend.

Howard Jenkins, Human Resources Manager of General Dynamics - Electric Boat Division will be present to answer questions about the demand for highly skilled labor in this expanding field.  Electric Boat’s President Jeffrey Geiger presented an annual outlook this week that outlined that Electric Boat needs to grow from 16,000 to 19,000 employees by the mid-2020s.  EB’s plans call for building as many as 55 submarines in the next 20 years, for example.

According to recent reports from the state Department of Labor, the number of manufacturing jobs in the Connecticut increased in 2017, for the first time in seven years.  There are more than 160,000 manufacturing jobs in the state.

Windham ECO provides students the opportunity to earn an Associate’s degree at no out of pocket cost while attending Windham High School.  W-ECO students graduate prepared to accept well-paid jobs in manufacturing-related fields, or can apply their college credits to continue with a 4-year college degree.
