Windham, CT October 31, 2019 - After serving the Windham school community for five years as Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Patricia Garcia is stepping down to take a professional leave for the remainder of the school year. Dr. Garcia came to Windham in 2014 from the Center for Educational Innovation, where she helped guide 28 high schools in New York State. During her time in Windham, Dr. Garcia has worked tirelessly to improve educational outcomes, increase parent involvement, and to strengthen school/community ties.

Dr. Garcia stated, “It has been a privilege to work with the dedicated Windham teachers and administrators, as well as the Board, to move the Windham Public Schools forward to better support our students and families.” Dr. Garcia has decided to step down to explore other professional opportunities after taking some time to recharge.

On behalf of the Windham Board of Education, Chairperson Lynne Ide thanked Dr. Garcia for her hard work on behalf of the schoolchildren in Windham. “We appreciate the work that Dr. Garcia has done for the Windham Public Schools, and we wish her all the best as she takes on future professional challenges.”

The Board has named an interim superintendent, and in the near future, it will establish a search committee to find a superintendent to succeed Dr. Garcia.
